Why didn’t anyone tell me about the Bible?
Alex began experimenting with drugs when he was just 13.
But experimenting quickly snowballed into an uncontrollable addiction. Eventually, drugs cost him 10 years of his life and even his family.
Like many users, Alex stole to feed his habit. He lived on the streets, robbing people at knifepoint. If they didn’t pay up, he’d hurt them.
But Alex can now admit, “I was a selfish person. I only thought about getting money to do drugs.”
It wasn’t until he stumbled out of a two-week drug binge that Alex realized how low he’d sunk. He finally summoned the courage to say, “No more.”
Alex found help at a Christian rehabilitation center. It was there that he yielded to Jesus and was given his very first Bible — a Bible provided by Spread the Word.
He says, “The Bible has taught me that God loves us and takes care of us. Even while we are sinners, Christ is always with us. This Bible has changed my life.”
Alex’s transformation has been so complete, he’s now a leader at the rehabilitation center, guiding other young men toward redemption and new life.
Every day, he and the other young men at the center gather in a circle and talk about the Word. Each young man has been given a Bible through Spread the World, just as Alex was. “If we put enthusiasm into reading the Bible,” he proclaims, “God will open up to us.”
Alex wants to use his growing faith and knowledge of the Bible to tell as many people as possible about the power of Scripture to change lives, so that no one has to ask, “Why didn’t anyone tell me about the Bible?”
He’s also working hard at winning back the trust of his family, and especially his wife. He acknowledges, “It is asking a lot to ask to have my wife that I love so much back. I hope God hears my prayers. I’m going to keep striving, and I’m going to accomplish it, because I am holding on to God’s hand.”
Today, Alex understands how and why he lost everything, including his precious family. But through the gift of a Bible, he’s well on his way to getting back his life, his family and his future.
